Not far from the French Col d’Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet is a somewhat unfamiliar but beautiful climb with an equally eloquent name: Hourquette d’Ancizan. The journey begins in a seemingly deserted wide green valley. Slowly but steadily, its narrow, meandering path climbs the face of the mountain. As the trail curls, the view of the yawning valley surrounded by famous peaks becomes more and more mesmerizing.
In 2016 the Tour de France will cross over this peak, and the climb will temporarily fall from oblivion. Soon after the last rider has passed, peacefulness will resume.
